Veterans Service Organization

The National Association for Black Veterans Future (NABVETS Future) is a nationally certified Veterans Service Organization and an official representative of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for claims assistance. With chapters across the United States and internationally, we advocate for veterans seeking benefits, services, and support.

strategic advocacy

NABVETS Future is committed to strategic advocacy at the federal, state, county, and city levels. We provide personal representation for all veterans filing claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and foster community development by enhancing the quality of life for veterans and their families. Additionally, we are dedicated to documenting and preserving the history of minority veterans.

Veterans worldwide

We envision NABVETS Future as the leading professional organization representing Black veterans worldwide. Our goal is to engage at least 50% of the national and international Black veteran population in our membership, while establishing chapters in regions, states, and cities with populations exceeding 250,000.

Who We Are

We work in partnership with communities to eliminate homelessness, empower low-income and minority veterans, and provide resources to disadvantaged youth. We offer transitional and permanent housing solutions, health and wellness support, economic assistance, rehabilitation services, and education and training programs.

We are dedicated to preserving the historical contributions of minority veterans and ensuring their legacies are honored. Our advocacy extends to homeless and economically challenged veterans, incarcerated veterans, and those reintegrating into society through comprehensive wraparound services.

NABVETS originated as The Interested Veterans of the Central City (IVOCC), founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1969 by seven returning Vietnam combat veterans.

The organization was formed to address employment, housing, and healthcare challenges affecting Vietnam veterans, particularly Black veterans facing systemic barriers to accessing benefits.

In 1973, IVOCC transitioned into a membership service organization, expanding its focus to Black and minority veterans. By 1998, NABVETS Future had earned certification as a National Veterans Service Organization (VSO) from the Department of Veterans Affairs and was officially chartered by the U.S. Congress. NABVETS Future became the first and only Black veterans’ organization to receive this distinction. Today, NABVETS Future has over 100 chapters, including locations in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

We are committed to connecting with younger active-duty personnel and recently separated veterans, prioritizing support for low-income veterans. Our goal is to secure adequate funding to meet the evolving needs of our members.

Membership with NABVETS Future offers camaraderie, networking, and the opportunity to serve fellow veterans. Join us in making a meaningful impact in the lives of those who have served.

"Honoring the past, serving the present, empowering the future."

“Support, opportunity, and advocacy—because every veteran deserves a future.”

NABVETS Future provides a broad range of resources to support veterans in accessing VA benefits, employment and business opportunities, education, and housing. Our programs foster advocacy, mentorship, and community engagement to enhance the well-being of veterans.
